Education & Outreach
Education & Outreach
Our Education and Outreach Programme has been running since
2020 with the firm intention to make the most of the beautiful and inspiring Japanese Garden and Stewart Woodland, for our local communities.
Since its beginning we have run a range of projects and activities, targeted at specific audiences, and with the help of our funders and team of volunteers, try to make these as low-cost, inclusive and accessible as possible.
On a day to day basis we offer a series of options for targeted audiences. Do get in touch if you have an idea or a group who you think might benefit from a visit or activity with us.
School Visits
We offer a schools workshop that encourages pupils to explore The Japanese Garden, find out about its history and natural features, and learn as they go. Our workshops particularly suit pupils are learning about Japan but equally are great opportunities to talk about Health and Wellbeing, and to immerse themselves in the joy of being and learning outdoors.
We also offer an outreach option so we can come to you if you can’t come to us.
Community Engagement
‘Ikigai’ is the term that Japan uses to refer to good quality of life, and our community engagement programme is inspired by this wellbeing word.
We design activities and projects intended to promote wellbeing in all its forms and invite groups to visit our Japanese Garden and take part in fun art or horticultural activities.
We also offer an outreach option if your group cannot get to us, so please just get in touch to discuss options.
Volunteering
We love having our volunteers on site supporting and helping our services to visitors and groups.
We currently have 3 groups of volunteers – tour guides, gardening assistants and education assistants – who support us in our various activities.
Please get in touch to find out about current availability.
Book Bug (Under 5's Sessions)
Between March – December we run Bookbug sessions in our Woodlands.
These song and story sessions are designed as formative literacy and social sessions, and us help us to encourage children to love nature right from the start!
