Photography, Filming and Artists

Amateur Photographers and Artists

We welcome amateur photographers and artists, particularly those who share images of the garden on social media – please tag us @cowdengarden. However, we do ask that you are aware of our volunteers and other visitors, who have a right to privacy. We ask that you do not deviate from the paths as this will damage the grounds. Please note that you are responsible for your own safety while photographing or painting in the garden.
Tripod and easel use are not permitted during normal opening hours. A charge will apply for out of hours use of the garden.

Drones

For privacy and safety reasons drones are not permitted in the garden during normal opening hours.

Commercial Photographers, Artists and Film Makers

All photography, audio recording and artwork undertaken in the garden for commercial purposes require permission from The Japanese Garden at Cowden. Conserving and maintaining the garden costs a significant amount and in most cases a fee will be incurred before permission is granted.

How to apply for permission

To request permission please email info@cowdengarden.com for an application form.

The application must be submitted at least 14 days prior to your visit. Along with your application you will be asked to complete a risk assessment, provide evidence that you hold appropriate insurances and make payment of the correct fee(s) which are stated below.

On receipt of your application form we may contact you to discuss your application. We will issue you with an agreement stating our terms and condition that must be signed prior to any photography or artwork taking place.
